Episode 78 - The Travel Surge is HERE!

Delta A350-900 seen from the lounge

Aired on May 24, 2021

We’ve been saying for over a year that we are “one week closer to this crisis being over” and here we are, at least in the US. Passenger volumes are back with a vengeance with Americans crowding airports and heading to leisure destinations after enduring COVID cabin fever. Doug regales us with his fabulous last business trip at his current job. Spoiler alert, he won’t get miles at his new job.

Other topics discussed

  • Traffic is up in the airports and in the air as we start seeing ATC programs to manage volume

  • TSA screenings are up to 70% of 2019 and airfares are rising

  • EU to open doors for vaccinated foreigners

  • Breeze launches with nonstop flights between smaller cities to “get people there twice as fast for half as much money”

  • Our Ops Center discussion focuses on windshear and microbursts and how we’re able to detect them

We finish the episode with our thoughts on a blog explaining why widebody domestic flights may not be advisable. What!? I think you know where this is going.
